At Babingtons, we practice everything from the commercial fields of banking and corporate law, to property law issues such as tenancies, sales and purchases, to family law issues to include divorce and children’s rights. We deal with personal, private client issues such inheritance, trusts, wills, prosecution, RTA’s and personal injury, and also with business crises to include bankruptcy, liquidation and debt.
Babingtons is led by 4 partners with a 25 strong team of solicitors, paralegals and support staff.
Partner
Killian graduated from the Law Faculty at University College Dublin in 1985 and after completing his professional qualifications at Queen’s University Belfast, was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Northern Ireland in 1987 and the Roll of Solicitors in the Republic of Ireland in 2005. Killian became a Partner in the firm in 1999 and enjoys a broad general practice with a particular emphasis on both Residential & Commercial Property transactions, Landlord and Tenant issues and Liquor Licensing applications/advice.
Killian has also been a member of the NIGALA Children’s Order solicitor panel since its inception in 1996 & has extensive experience in this area.
Partner
Tom studied Law at Trinity College Dublin, graduating in 1995 and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in the Republic of Ireland in 1998. He worked as an Associate in the Corporate Department of a major Irish Law Firm in Dublin before joining Babingtons in 2005 and becoming a Partner in 2007. Tom is qualified to practice in both Northern Ireland and the Republic and his specialties are Commercial Law, Banking and Insolvency, and Conveyancing in the Republic of Ireland specifically.
Tom is an active member of the Londonderry Junior Chamber of Commerce and has tutored on the Commercial Law course with the Law Society of Ireland. He completed the Leaders for Tomorrow Programme at Harvard University in 2008.
Partner
Maeve has been with the firm since 2006 following the completion of her law degree with the University of Ulster. In 2015 Maeve completed her apprenticeship and obtained her Certificate in Professional Legal Studies with distinction. Further she won the Arthur Cox award for first placed student in her year group and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in NI.
Maeve has a wealth of experience in all matters surrounding estate planning to include Inheritance Tax Planning and Trusts, Enduring Powers of Attorney, the drafting of Wills and the Administration of Estates to include contested matters. She is also tasked by the Office of Care and Protection to act as Controller of the financial affairs for those who lack capacity. She is an Affiliate of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) demonstrating her expertise and accreditation in this area.
Maeve is an experienced Residential and Commercial Conveyancer and also acts on behalf of developers, often acting in transactions of high value. She has a keen interest in issues which affect the farming community and is primarily based in our Strabane office. She is a Partner within the firm and is available for appointments within both offices and indeed can attend for house visits when necessary.
Solicitor
Joann obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies with Taxation from LYIT and qualified as a solicitor in 2008 in the Republic of Ireland. She joined Babingtons in 2018. Her main areas of practice include Conveyancing, acting in both the purchase and sale of Residential and Commercial properties, preparing tenancy agreements in relation to Commercial, Agricultural, and Residential lettings, Wills & Probate matters, and Advising and Preparing Enduring Powers of Attorney. She has acted on behalf of both Landlord and Tenant in respect of Residential tenancies board mediations.
Joann has extensive experience in Personal Injury Litigation, Debt Recovery and Equity matters including land disputes, applications for partitions and Injunctions.
In 2023 Joann completed a certificate in Assisted Decision-Making Capacity with the Law Society in the Republic of Ireland.
Solicitor & Notary Public
Bronagh completed her Law Degree at Queen’s University Belfast, graduating in 2004 with Honours and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in September 2006. Bronagh provides advice in relation to all issues arising out of the breakdown of a relationship to include divorce, separation, financial matters and children disputes. Her cases often involve substantial assets and complex issues. She has extensive advocacy experience in all court divisions and regularly appears on behalf of her clients. Her other areas of work are Litigation, Criminal matters and Conveyancing. She is available for appointments in either our Strabane or Derry office, working between both.
Bronagh has been an accredited member of the Law Society of Northern Ireland’s Children Order panel since 2009 and a member of the Children’s Court Guardian Agency for Northern Ireland’s Solicitor panel since 2012. She routinely represents Guardians and children before Court. Bronagh is also a Notary Public, one of only 40 Solicitors in Northern Ireland permitted to provide notarial services. She also sits on the Board of Governors of Thornhill College as an Education Authority representative.
Solicitor
Rebecca graduated with her Law Degree from Queen’s University Belfast in 2016 and then went on to train and qualify as a solicitor with Babingtons, graduating from the Institute of Professional Legal Studies in the Summer of 2018. Rebecca was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in NI later that year.
After working in Belfast for a few years, Rebecca returned to Babingtons in 2022 and has since gained extensive experience primarily across Residential & Commercial Property matters as well as Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, Administration of Estates & Probate work. Rebecca splits her time between our Derry and Strabane offices, playing a key role in each.
Solicitor
Daniel graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2017 and further from the Institute of Processional Legal Studies in June 2023, and thereafter completing his apprenticeship with Babingtons Solicitors. He joined the Roll of Solicitors in October 2023. He previously held positions within the Law Society and Bar Council.
Daniel advises both private and corporate clients and has assisted with contentious and transactional matters including Licensing, Debt Recovery, Property and Commercial Litigation.
